History

In June of 1986, three residents of Irvine got together to discuss the possibility of compiling a local history book of the area. From that meeting William Will, Gordon Woodward and Herman Weideman had initiated the beginnings of The 20 Mile Post Historical Society. William Will was elected as Chairman, and his wife Freida, agreed to act as Secretary. As news of the fledgling group spread, membership increased and an official society was formed in order to access funds to produce a publication. Meetings were held every 3rd Monday, at the New Horizons Hall in Irvine. Submissions from area residents, both passed and present were called for, the culmination of which resulted in "A New Beginning", which was successfully launched in Irvine ca. 1989.
