Whiting, Robert T.

Robert T. Whiting is the grandson of Frank Herbert Whiting who was born in 1857 at Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. Frank Whiting studied Civil Engineering at Ames College in Iowa. Frank, his wife Millah and their eight children moved to Skagway, Alaska in 1898 when he was appointed Division Superintendent of the White Pass and Yukon Route (WP&YR) railroad. The family returned to the lower forty-eight by 1903 and Mr. Whiting remained involved in large engineering projects throughout his career. Frank Herbert Whiting died in Seattle in 1936. Robert is the son of their last child, James David, born in 1896.

Wood, Stuart Zachary Taylor

Stuart Zachary Taylor Wood, 1889-1966, was born in Ontario, the son of Zachary Taylor Wood. After being educated at the Royal Military College, he joined the Royal North West Mounted Police (RNWMP) in 1912. He was appointed Commissioner of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) in 1938. He retired in 1951 and died in Ottawa on June 3, 1966. Wood had a keen interest in researching the history of the North West Mounted Police (NWMP), which he pursued during the 1940s and 1950s.

Born as Sue Dickson in 1911, daughter of Northwest Mounted Police (NWMP) officer Tom Dickson. She grew up at Burwash, then moved to Champagne ca. 1929. She operated the General Store in Champagne during the building of the Alaska Highway. She was married to, and had 7 children with, George Chambers, who died in 1942. In 1946, she married Alex Van Bibber. They had two children. In 1996, she was living in Haines Junction and Champagne.

Schowalter, Tim

In 1973, David B. (Tim) Schowalter worked as a summer contractor for the Canadian Wildlife Service out of Old Crow, Yukon. His project, the North Yukon Raptor Survey, evaluated the potential impact a pipeline might have on birds of prey. As a result, he was able to see virtually all of Yukon north of Old Crow from the air. Schowalter is currently (2007) a Professor of Entomology at LSU AgCenter and College of Agriculture in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
