Murray-Dixon, Gerald

Gerald Donovan Trevelyan Murray-Dixon, 1891-1982, was born in Leicestershire, England and immigrated to Canada in 1910 to attend Bradfield College ranch school near Calgary, Alberta. He worked in the Lesser Slave Lake area, particularly around Grouard, for a while, in part working on the Edmonton, Dunvegan and British Columbia railway. Murray-Dixon served in the 49th Battalion in the First World War and was involved in the battle for Vimy Ridge. He returned to the Peace River area near Berwyn for a time and also served on steamboats. Murray-Dixon married Molly Mary Warren in 1927 and in the late 1920s moved to Turner Valley, Alberta.

Muttart, Gladys Edith

Gladys Edith Bowling was born in Stratford, Ontario. She moved to Edmonton, Alberta with her parents in 1906. In 1927 she married Merrill David Muttart, whom she had met while they were attending McDougall Commercial High School in Edmonton. She was vice-president and partner with her husband of Muttart Enterprise and with her husband established the Muttart Foundation. She was diagnosed with diabetes in 1932, and worked tirelessly for that cause; she was president of the Canadian Diabetes Association for three years beginning in 1954, lecturing across Canada. She was awarded with an honourary degree, a doctor of laws, from Mount Allison University in Sackville, New Brunswick in 1964. She was a life member of the National Council of Women of Canada, the Young Women's Christian Association, the Alumni Association of the University of Alberta and the United Church Women. In 1962 she was made a Serving Sister in the Venerable Order of St. John of Jerusalem by Governor General Georges Vanier for her work for the Canadian Diabetes Association and other charitable organizations. She died November 28, 1969.

Nagel, Eileen

Eileen Nagel, 1941- , of Woking, Alberta was an active member of the Farm Women's Union of Alberta and its successor, Women of Unifarm, from 1961 to 1991. Her husband, Hartmann Nagel, was the president of Unfarm from 1991 to 1993. Eileen believed that the activities of farm organziations in Alberta were an important aspect of the province's history which deserved to be preserved. She therefore spent ten years gathering relevant documents, photographs and artifacts from a wide variety of individuals, local branches of farm groups, and other sources. She called her collection "One Hundred Years of General Farm Organizations in Alberta, 1905-2005".

Nasedkin, Victor

Victor Nasedkin worked for Northern Alberta Railway in 1947 as well as operating a farm with his wife Jennie. By 1950 he was both a farmer and a school bus driver. In 1957, the family moved to Fairview and Victor began work with Imperial Oil Co. as an oil agent as well as farming. From 1966-1980, he added rental properties to his business, including building the Midtowner Motel in 1979 which replaced his Fifth Ave. Apartments. Victor and Jennie had five children and eventually moved to Grande Prairie for their retirement.

Nelson, Marie

Marie Nelson (nee Marie Helen Brown), 1925-1978, was an active community worker and historian in Chestermere, Conrich and Calgary where she spent her life. She taught piano, was a regional director and member of the provincial executive of the Alberta Federation of Home and School Associations and was vice-chairman of the Historical Society. In addition she was also a docent at the Glenbow Museum, was involved in the Canadian Cancer Society and the Alberta Music Educators' Association, and helped compile the history of Central United Church, Calgary. She was married to Mervin Nelson and they had a daughter, Susan Nelson.

Ness, Jason

Jason Ness, ca. 1975- , was born in Calgary, Alberta and earned a BA in History, a BSc in Archaeology, and an MED in Planning, all from the University of Calgary. Since 2003 he has been Manager of Land Planning, Southern Region for Alberta Infrastructure. Since 1992 he has been heavily involved in the New Democratic Party including as an executive member of the University of Calgary Campus New Democrats, New Democratic Youth of Alberta, New Democractic Youth of Canada, Calgary Shaw Constituency Association, Calgary Southeast Riding Association, Calgary North Hill Constituency Association and a member of the Provincial Executive.
