Georges William de Roaldes, 1874-1968, was born in France and came to Alberta in 1905. He homesteaded in the Millarville district to raise horses. He served overseas in the Canadian Mounted Rifles in First World War, attaining the rank of major. He returned to Alberta in 1919 to a farm near Innisfail where he continued with his horse breeding. In 1923 he moved to Santa Barbara, California, USA where he continued his equestrian activities. He and his wife had two children, Henry, 1901-1978, and Juliette (Kelly).

de Bellefeuille, Catherine

Catherine de Bellefeuille, 1884-?, was born in St. Eustache, Quebec. In September 1914 she was appointed to commissioned rank in the Canadian Army Medical Corps, and in October was sent to England as a nurse at the No. 1 Canadian General Hospital. She went to France in November and served with the No. 2 Canadian Stationary Hospital at Touget-Paris-Plage. In May 1916 she was posted to the No. 4 Canadian General Hospital in Salonika, Macedonia where she served for six months treating French, Serbian and British soldiers at the front. She returned to England in December 1916 and served at the No. 14 Canadian General Hospital in Eastbourne, Sussex for the remainder of First World War. In June 1918 she was decorated with the Royal Red Cross for exceptional bravery and devotion to duty. She was also one of only 160 Canadians to receive the 1914 star for service in France before November 14, 1914. She returned to Canada in April 1919 and retired to Montreal in that year. Catherine's sister Marguerite married Mounted Police officer Albert Edward Cortlandt Macdonell in 1899.

Paul de Beaudrap, ?-1944, was born in France and came to Alberta in 1904. He and his brother, Roger, settled at Trochu with a group of French settlers and established a ranch. Paul and his wife had five children, Bernard, ?-1941, Xavier, ca. 1892-1973, Yvonne, ?-1947, Andre, ?-1969, and Genevieve (Wiart). Xavier served in First World War and established his own homestead in 1919.

St. Rita's School District

St. Rita's Separate School District No. 27 was established in Rockyford, Alberta in 1926. Three years later an Ursuline Convent was built and the Ursuline nuns provided teachers for the school. A new school building was built in 1960. Beginning in the late 1960s there was considerable collaboration with the local public school and in 1976 they amalgamated under the name Rockyford-St. Rita's School Division. The division was dissolved in August 1981. Tildesley, Palma

Palma Eleonora Volstad, 1919-2004, was born in Claresholm, Alberta and educated in local schools. After training at the Calgary Normal School she taught in several rural schools including Northern Lights School District No. 2155 (south of Claresholm), Badger Flat School District No. 1471 (southeast of Claresholm), and Clover Mount School District No. 811 (west of Didsbury). In 1942 she joined the British Admiralty Technical Mission and after training in Peterborough, Ontario worked in Oshawa, Regina and Calgary. She married Gerald Tildesley, ?-1979, and they had two children, Karen (MacCrimmon) and Robert.

Ray, Thomas

Thomas Ray worked as an assistant to British publisher Peter Davies, 1897-1960, who was associated with Heinemann Publishing Group. Davies purchased the Lovat Dickson publishing company in 1938 and became the owner of the rights to Grey Owl's books. Ray preserved the Grey Owl file when Heinemann moved offices.

Remackel, Dolly

Dolly Francis Remackel, [ca. 1918]-2004, lived in the Children's Shelter in Calgary, Alberta. She attended Crescent Heights High School in the early 1930s, and in 1939 graduated as a nurse from the Calgary General Hospital School of Nursing. She specialized in the care of patients with tuberculosis. She married Dan Brown, and they had five children, Colleen, Richard, Shelley (Sweeney), Danielle (Cournoyer), and Dan. The family lived in British Columbia.

Rocky Mountain Singers

The Rocky Mountain Singers, a gay and lesbian choral group, was founded in Calgary in 1989 by Luke Shwart and others. The group sang for pleasure, performed concerts in local venues, and participated in choral festivals in other places.

Steward, John

John Steward, 1936-2009, was born in Chester-le-Street, Country Durham, England and was trained as a mining engineer. He immigrated to Canada to work for McIntyre Mines at Grande Cache, Alberta in the late 1960s. He later worked in Bogota, Colombia and Calgary, Alberta. Steward and his wife Margaret had two daughters, Alison and Lesley (Aboli).

Walsh, Roxanne

Roxanne Walsh moved to Turner Valley, Alberta in 1998. She gradually became concerned about the drinking water situation in the town as a result of the presence of the Turner Valley Gas Plant Historic Site. In 2005, she and several other residents formed the Turner Valley Gas Plant Committee for a Safe Historic Site. The group and others worked to encourage the government to develop an effective containment wall at the plant. Walsh and others used the Environmental Appeals Board to encourage other action with respect to water quality and ultimately asked the government to fully reclaim the plant.
