Wickman, Percy

Percy Wickman was born in Thunder Bay, Ontario. He came to Edmonton in 1960 and worked various odd jobs until an industrial accident damaged his spine and confined him to a wheelchair. After the accident and a year's recovery, he was employed by paraplegic organizations including the Coalition of Provincial Organizations of the Handicapped and the Handicapped Housing Society of Alberta. He also upgraded his education and earned a Business Administration diploma from the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology in 1969. He later attended the University of Alberta majoring in Political Science. He ran for city council three times before being elected in 1977. He served three terms as councilor until 1986 then worked as a private consultant and as the executive director to the leader of the Alberta Liberals, Laurence Decore. He ran as a Liberal against Provincial Premier Don Getty, and won the seat in 1989. He wrote an autobiography "Wheels in the Fast Lane ... a blessing in Disguise". in 1987.

Stutchbury, Lorna

The "Edmonton Bulletin" was the first newspaper in Edmonton and published from 1881 until the fifties. The donor is the granddaughter-in-law to Howard Stutchbury.

O'Regan, Brian

Brian O'Regan is a researcher in Ottawa with an interest in Irish History. Katherine Hughes was the first provincial Archivist in at the Legislature in Edmonton and an Irish woman.

Rea, John

John and William Rae, two brothers from Ontario, came to Edmonton in early 1900. William came to Edmonton in 1901 and worked as a teacher then as a principal of the College Avenue high school. He studied law and articled in 1906 before being admitted to the bar in 1912. John joined his brother in Edmonton when he entered the dominion customs service in 1906. Both were leading members of the community. William served on the school board and as alderman, and was president of the Schools Trustees for many years. John died in 1949 and William died in 1957.

Hawker, Peter

Peter Hawker is a retired Edmonton school teacher who is interested in historical geography. He has written several pieces of local history including a biography of John Rowand and the book, "Fort Edmonton: Fur Trade Entrepot". He has served as the honorary factor of Fort Edmonton Park. He has been active in the Canadian Geographical Society and in the Historical Society of Alberta for many years.

Watt, Alex

Alex Watt was a hockey player in Edmonton in the 1930s and 1940s.

Martin, William J.

William J. Martin was a photographer in the city before 1940.

Premium Coal Company

The Premium Coal Company of Thomas Brown and Joseph Henry Reed operated a mine at 73rd Street in Edmonton for several years employing up to 25 men underground. It was abandoned in 1951.
