Cameron, Alan Emerson

Mining engineer, 1890-1977. Dr. Cameron joined the Department of Mining Engineering in 1914, departing in 1937 to become Deputy Minister of Mines for Nova Scotia. In 1947 he became President of the Nova Scotia Technical College, from which he retired in 1957. His scholarly and professional pursuits involved him in the areas of mining engineering and metallurgy throughout Canada, especially in the Northwest Territories.

Bryan, Alan

Alan Lyle Bryan is Professor Emeritus at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Alberta. He holds graduate degrees from the University of Washington (M.A.1955) and Harvard University (Ph.D. 1962). The author of numerous publications, he has over 50 years of field experience in archaeology, with research at early sites in all parts of the Americas. Dr. Bryan has also served as curator for archaeology and ethno­graphic collections at the University of Alberta.

Love, Alan T.

Alan T. "Pony" Love, 1911?-1995, was the son of a bank manager in southern Alberta. During the Second World War he served with the Royal Canadian Navy escorting convoys in the North Atlantic. After the war he remained with the navy, retiring with the rank of lieutenant-commander in 1967. He was later Assistant Commandant of the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires. In 1994 he received the Governor General's Award for his volunteer work with the Navy League of Canada.

Donnelly, Albert

Albert Donnelly grew up in Bretchin, Ontario to a family of 2 sisters and 8 brothers. While in Ontario he worked as painter, for the Northern Ontario Railway, and the Grand Trunk Railway. In 1914, he traveled west and took up plumbing. After living in Regina, he moved to Rimbey, Alberta to farm with his father's family. After farming, he moved to Edmonton. He worked for the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) first as a laborer then as a car inspector. He worked in Red Deer for CPR for 39 years. He retired from the CPR in 1953, and later moved to Osoyoos, BC.

Helmer, Albert

Laurence E. "Larry" Helmer, 1889-1979, was born in Russell, Manitoba, the son of Albert Helmer, 1848-1934, and Margaret Georgina Britt. Albert was a land surveyor and helped survey the boundary between Alberta and Saskatchewan in 1880. He later was a ranch inspector. Larry was employed by the Albertan before entering the Dominion Lands Office in 1907. He later homesteaded at Cessford, Alberta where he served as the secretary of the Berry Creek Agricultural Society, 1904-1931, and secretary of the Bulyea Municipal District, 1917-1932. He was an advocate of irrigation developments in the drybelt as his father had been. Larry opened a general store, implement dealership and oil agency in Pollockville in 1923, and was a municipal inspector for the Berry Creek Special Area. In 1941 he joined the Prairie Farm Rehabilitation Administration (PFRA) and supervised the construction of dams and dugouts in the Hanna-Coronation district. He was a member of the Hanna town council and the Hanna Hospital Board in the 1940s and 1950s. He was inducted into the Alberta Agricultural Hall of Fame in 1978. He and his wife had three children, Norma (Meers), Lois (Alexander) and Laurence L. "Lee".
