Biographical history
The Aitken family travelled from Fredericton, New Brunswick to the Yukon during the Gold Rush era.
Custodial history
The original photographs were purchased by Fred Farrell of the Provincial Archives of New Brunswick, from Harry Bagley, a book dealer from New Brunswick. A set of negatives and prints were made by the New Brunswick Archives and donated to the Yukon Archives in 1998.
Scope and content
The fonds consists of reproductions of photographs taken by the Aitken family who travelled to the Yukon during the Gold Rush. The photographs include scenes of streets and buildings in Dawson City, Grand Forks, Bonanza and Skagway, Alaska, totem poles in Wrangell and Sitka, Alaska, the "White Horse" sternwheeler and dredging operation on the Yukon River, and scenes of Glacier, British Columbia.
