Name of creator
Westminster United Church was establaished in 1925 upon the creation of The United Church of Canada from a union of the Methodist, Presbyterian and Congregational denominations. The origin of the congregation is from the Albany Avenue Methodist Church that was established in Edmonton in 1912. At the time of union the congregation chose the name of Westmount United Church. In 1947, the congregation changed its name to Westminster United Church when it moved into a new church building at 124 street and 113 avenue. Westminister United Church existed until 1991 when it joined with Kirk United Church in Edmonton.
These records of Albany Avenue Methodist Church were located in the Westminster United Church fonds. Records deposited under Accession Number PR 1983.285 were acquired by the Conference Archives sometime prior to 1975, but there is no surviving record of the details. In 1975, the Conference entered into a permanent loan agreement with the Provincial Archives of Alberta (PAA) for the physical custody and control of the holdings of the Conference Archives and the records were relocated to the PAA in that same year. Records received after 1975 have come from church members or officers of the presbytery or the Conference.
