Administrative history
The Alberta Family Histories Society of Calgary, Alberta began operations as a branch of the Alberta Genealogical Society in 1974. The Society became a separate organization in 1980 and over the years has met at the University of Calgary, Memorial Park Library, the Masonic Hall, Knox United Church and since 1997 at Southminster United Church. The Society has monthly meetings and its programs are managed by a variety of committees and special interest groups. A journal, Chinook, provides information about society activities, and a variety of conferences have been held over the years to educate members about genealogical topics. For further information see Sheila Johnston's article, "The Calgary Branch of AGS / Alberta Family Histories Society" in Relatively Speaking, vol 26, no.1, (February 1998), p.10-11.
