Biographical history

Dates of Founding and/or Dissolution:;The Alberta Home Mortgage Corporation was established in 1976. The enabling legislation that created the Corporation was repealed in 1984. Functional Responsibility:;Alberta Home Mortgage Corporation was created to carry out the duties and functions provided for by the statute, The Alberta Home Mortgage Corporation Act (S.A. Chapter 26, 1976). The Corporation functioned to provide money by way of direct loans or insured loans, which assisted in the acquisition, construction, provision development, maintenance and management of housing. The Alberta Home Mortgage Corporation served to provide subsidies and grants to individuals and families only, rather that the private sector. Predecessor and Successor Bodies:;The Alberta Housing Corporation merged with the Alberta Home Mortgage Corporation to form the Alberta Mortgage and Housing Corporation in 1984. Later, in 1994, the Alberta Social Housing Corporation would replace the Alberta Mortgage and Housing Corporation. Administrative Relationships:;The Corporation exercised its power only as an agent of the government in the right of Alberta. The annual report for the Corporation was submitted to the Lieutenant Governor. Administrative Structure:;The enabling legislation stipulates the members of the Board of Directors for the Corporation. The Minister as defined by the legislation is Chairman of the Board. Other members of the Corporation are the Deputy Minister, the Deputy Provincial Treasurer and the President of the Corporation. Other members of the Board of Directors are appointed by the Lieutenant Governor. The Lieutenant Governor has the power to designate the President of the Corporation. The majority of the members of the board constitute a quorum. Names of the Corporate Bodies:;The Corporation also used the acronym AHMC as a name for the organization.
