Administrative history
The Alberta Library Trustees Association (ALTA) was incorporated July 26, 1971 under the Societies Act, to promote educational programs to enable Library Trustees to discharge their responsibilities in a manner best fitted to benefit the public and the libraries they represent. The objectives of the Association were changed in 1979 to promote and encourage the development of libraries and library services in Alberta and to assist members to understand their responsibilities as library trustees through newsletters, publications, workshops and conferences. ALTA is a collective voice for Alberta library trustees and, through them, represents the interests of patrons and supporters of public libraries. ALTA promotes effective library service and leadership in communication and advocacy and encourages trustee education and development.
