Biographical history
The Alberta Livestock Co-operative Limited (Ltd.) (ALC) was established in 1940. The ALC was a farmer-owned Commission Agency, which sold livestock for member associations, and those wishing to market through the Co-operative. In 1950, there were fifty-two member associations throughout the province. Each association selected a delegate to attend the ALC annual meetings. A Board of Directors was elected from the delegates. Livestock was assembled by the member associations, and then sent directly to the ALC, where the livestock was sold for the highest market price. The Edmonton Agency opened in 1940, the Calgary Agency in 1942, and the Lethbridge Agency in 1950.
