Dates of Founding and/or Dissolution:;The Alberta Mortgage and Housing Corporation was established in 1984. Functional Responsibility:;The Alberta Mortgage and Housing Corporation was created to assist low and moderate income Albertans in obtaining affordable housing. Assistance is provided through development, financing, management, and maintenance of land and housing programs, and the provision of loan insurance on mobile home loans. In the enabling legislation, The Alberta Mortgage and Housing Corporation Act, (S.A. Chapter A 32.5, 1984), the Corporation carries out of the duties and functions that relate to any program respecting housing and land development and the provision of loans for housing and land development as assigned under the Act or by the Lieutenant Governor in Council. In 1985, the Alberta Mortgage and Housing Corporation (AMHC) was transferred to the jurisdiction of the Department of Municipal Affairs for the Department of Housing. Predecessor and Successor Bodies:;The Alberta Mortgage and Housing Corporation was created when the Alberta Housing Corporation and the Alberta Home Mortgage Corporation merged. Later, in 1994, the Alberta Social Housing Corporation would replace the Alberta Mortgage and Housing Corporation. Administrative Relationships:;Initially the annual report for the Alberta Mortgage and Housing Corporation was presented to the Lieutenant Governor. Administrative Structure:;The enabling legislation stipulates the members of the Board of Director for the Corporation. The Minister as defined by the legislation is the Chairman of the Board. Other members of the Corporation are the Deputy Minister, the Deputy Provincial Treasurer and the President of the Corporation. The Lieutenant Governor appoints the remaining members of the Board. The Lieutenant Governor has the power to appoint the President of the Corporation. The majority of the members of the board constitute a quorum. Names of the Corporate Bodies:;In 1994, the Alberta Housing Act (S.A. Chapter A 30.1, 1994) repealed and replaced The Alberta Mortgage and Housing Corporation Act. Under the new legislation, the Alberta Mortgage and Housing Corporation was continued as the Alberta Social Housing Corporation.
