Biographical history

The Alberta Women's Institutes were organized on a provincial basis in 1915 with the aims of helping local women acquire home-making skills; training women for leadership; promoting social, moral, civic and educational betterment; and safeguarding the welfare of home, community and country. The organization eventually adopted a district, constituency and branch structure. The Calgary / Okotoks Constituency was organized in the 1920s or 1930s and encompassed local branches in the Calgary region. In 2002 Calgary / Okotoks merged with Twin Bow Constituency to form the Bow Valley Constituency.
