Biographical history

Alethea Wood was born in approximately 1902 in Ontario. She and her sister, Etta, joined their father, Hiram Brodie Wood, in Alberta in March of 1908. Hiram, a widower, had come to Alberta in 1906, ranching near Sounding Lake, then purchasing land near Hardisty, Alberta in 1907. Alethea started school in the area in the spring of 1908. Hiram married Miss C.L. Thomson, a local teacher, originally from Ontario, in September of 1910. Hiram was mayor of Hardisty from 1925 to 1933. Alethea married Reg Barnecut; they lived in Calgary, Alberta.
