Biografie

Alex Mudie emigrated from London, England, to Canada in 1888, with his son Harry. His wife, twin daughters and sons David, Edwin and Charlie remained in England. Alex and his son Harry travelled from Brandon, Manitoba, to Whitewood, Saskatchewan, where they found employment as farm labourers. In 1889, Alex started a bakery business, which was eventually sold in 1896. In 1892, son Charlie emigrated to join his father and brother on a homestead in the Whitewood area. Edwin, or "Win" as he was also referred, left England in 1897, to also join the family. That same year, the Mudies moved to the Cypress Hills area. In 1898, at age 55, Alex Mudie's health began to fail, and he passed away in 1899. Son Charlie had been born on June 9, 1878, in London. He married Rita (nee Sahra?) May, in April of 1909. The couple had two children; Margaret (or Helen Margaret), born August 27, 1910, and Richard, born February 2, 1912. Margaret was the first child christened at St. Margaret's Anglican Church at Eagle Butte. Rita Mudie passed away on January 27, 1927. Charles later remarried, in 1929, to Ethel Last. They stayed in the Elkwater area until 1960, when they moved into Medicine Hat to retire. Ethel passed away in 1963, and Charlie Mudie on December 23, 1967. He was buried in Hillside Cemetery until 1988, when he was disinterred to Stoney Plain, Alberta. Margaret Mudie married Ralph Eeles in 1936. They had three children; Ruth, born November 1937, Rachel, born December 1938, and Fred, born in May of 1942. Richard Mudie married Florence Bischke on February 2, 1912. They had one son, Ernest, born August 3, 1949. Richard later remarried and farmed the family homestead in the Cypress Hills.
