Notice biographique
Alex Van Bibber grew up at Pelly Crossing. He was one of the fourteen children of Ira and Eliza Van Bibber. He went to school in Dawson City up to grade six, then left school so that his siblings could have their turn. He dredged in Dawson City, surveyed in Whitehorse for the Alaska Highway, trekked from Mayo to Norman Wells for the Canol Pipeline project in 1943. He started an outfitters company in the 1940s, then went prospecting in the Firth River area in 1948. He then worked on hydrometric crews for the Dept. of Indian Affairs and Northern Development. In 1977 he began consulting work for Yukon and NWT Renewable Resources. He married Mary Davis in 1941, but they later divorced. In 1946, he married Sue Dixon. He was in the movie "Mad Trapper" and climbed Mt. Kennedy with Robert Kennedy. See Van Bibber Search File for more information.
