Biographical history

Alice Broughton was born November 2, 1912, on a farm near Donalda, Alberta. After attending local schools in the Donalda area, Miss Broughton entered Camrose Lutheran College. After graduating from the Lutheran College, Miss Broughton entered Camrose Normal School, graduating with a teacher's certificate in 1933. Upon graduation, Miss Broughton taught in several rural schools in northern Alberta before coming to teach grade 1 at Wetaskiwin's Alexandra School from 1948- 1954. In 1954, Alexandra School was demolished and Miss Broughton taught grade 1 at the new Queen Elizabeth School until 1962. In 1962, Miss Broughton moved to Parkdale School in Wetaskiwin where she taught grade 1 and was principal of the school. In 1969, Miss Broughton retired from teaching but continued on at Parkdale as the elementary school coordinator until her retirement in 1976.

Fonds consists of materials created by Alice Broughton of Wetaskiwin, Alberta from 1948- 1984. Fonds consists of these series: 1. Scrapbooks (1948- 1984) Series consists of 4 scrapbooks compiled by Miss Broughton. The scrapbooks are entitled Parkdale School; Alexandra School; Queen Elizabeth School; and Wetaskiwin City and School District #264. The scrapbooks contain class photographs, newspaper clippings about the school and students, and other materials related to Mrs. Broughton's career as a teacher. 2. Programmes (1939- 1952) Consists of programmes related to tours of Canada by the British Royal family.
