Biographical history

Canadian journalist and author. Alixe (Alexandra) Carter, née Carson, born in Calgary, Alberta, in 1912. Educated in Calgary and Ottawa, Ontario. Began her career as a journalist on Calgary papers in 1932. Freelanced from British Columbia, 1946-1966, while raising three children. Moved to Ottawa in 1966, where she worked as staff reporter and columnist for the Ottawa Journal until 1979. Published works include No tears for Peggy Perle (1979), Stop the press (1984), The doodlebugs (1985), Facts and fancies (1987), The bamboo grove (1989) and The pressure cooker (1991). First female life member of the National Press Club. Awards include the Canadian Women's Press Club Award for Women News Writers (1956) and the Media Club of Canada Award for Columns (1976). Died in Salmon Arm, British Columbia, in 2002.
