Biographical history
Andrew Porubsky grew up in Cleveland, Ohio. He had one sister, Ann, and two brothers, John and Charles. Porubsky was involved with the building of the Alaska Highway.
Custodial history
Donated to the Yukon Archives by Bob Shimits. He received the album from Andrew's brother, Charles Porubsky.
Scope and content
The fonds consists of a photograph album depicting Andrew Porubsky's unit participating in the construction of the Alaska Highway. Images include fellow military personnel (some are identified by first name), highway construction and equipment, scenic views, a view inside a tent, outdoor shower facilities, a memorial cairn to Lt. R.R. Small, bridge construction on the Slims and Donjek rivers in the Yukon, a music band, an Alaska Highway Kluane sign, cabins, a possible freighter canoe, and a mine entrance. Also included are images from his training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri and of his family in Ohio.
