Fonds yuk-296 - Ann and George Esterer fonds

Ann Zawalsky was born and grew up in the North Battleford region of Saskatchewan. She completed high school and then graduated from Provincial Normal School in Saskatoon in 1952. She taught in Saskatchewan until 1954 when she went to Keno, Yukon to teach in the one room school there. In Keno, Ann met George Esterer. George was born in Austria where he earned a Chemistry degree in 1950. He immigrated to Canada in 1951 and moved to Keno early in 1952. There he worked as an assayer in the Government Assay Office from 1952 to 1954, and as Chief Assayer in the MacKeno Mines assay office from 1954-1957. George and Ann were married in All Saints Anglican Church in Keno in June 1957. In October 1957, the MacKeno Mine closed and George and Ann, along with many other people, left Keno and the Yukon. They subsequently lived at Cowichan Lake, British Columbia, Rayrock Mines in the North West Territories and Edmonton, where they settled in 1959. In 1975, the Esterers moved to St. Albert, Alberta, and they were living there in 1996. They had three sons: Mark George Esterer (b. 1961), Jay Michael Esterer (b. 1962), and Brent Raymon Esterer (b. 1964).
