Biographical history

Archibald Holmes "Archie" Boyce, 1897-1987, was born in Woodstock, Ontario. He came to Alberta with his parents to farm at Disdbury and later Carstairs where he received his education. He served in First World War and returned to his own farm at Carstairs. Here he met Olwen M. Owen, 1905-1991, who was originally from Wales, and they were married in Calgary in 1929. They had one son, Stewart. During the 1920s Archie had become interested in auctioneering and did a great deal of this near his home. In 1938 the Boyces moved near Olds where they built an auction market in 1953. In 1956 Boyce "retired" to Calgary but he continued his active involvement with auctions. In 1982 he won an Albert Achievement Award and the livestock pavilion at the Calgary Exhibition and Stampede was named in his honour.
