Biographical history
Arnold Guebert was born in Illinois in 1896 and attended Concordia College in Milwaukee, Wisconsin graduating in 1916. Then he attended Seminary in St. Louis, Missouri until 1921 after which he served as vicar to congregations in Texas and Minnesota. He married Anita Burgdorf after graduation and received his first call to South Dakota. The Gueberts had five children. In 1928 Guebert went to Edmonton, Alberta to serve as professor at Concordia College and followed a course of graduate studies at the University of Alberta obtaining a MA in 1943 and a B.Ed in 1946. During his time at the College he also served as Director of Sunday School by mail and the District Archivist. His duties at the college included teaching Latin Guebert died in 1970 in Edmonton.
Custodial history
The records were deposited with the Lutheran Historical Institute by the family and Concordia University College of Alberta.
Scope and content
This fonds contains the papers of Arnold Guebert prepared for Pastoral Conferences, the Concordia Historical Institute and the Canadian Lutheran Journal (1946-1969); lecture notes on philosophy; sermons (1925-1968 and a family biography.
