Biographical history
Arthur J. Dixon, 1919-2007, was born at Windlestone, County Durham, England and came to Canada with his parents in 1928. He was educated at Okotoks, Alberta and in 1944 married Dorothea J. Evans. Dixon served in the Royal Canadian Air Force from 1940 to 1946 and was then active in the insurance and real estate business in Calgary. He was first elected to Alberta Legislature in 1952 and served as an MLA until 1971. Dixon was appointed Deputy Speaker of the Alberta Legislature in 1955 and Speaker in 1963. He received the Order of Canada in 1979.
