Biographical history

Arvon came to Jasper with his parents Marion and Jack, his sister Shirley and brother Ron in 1943. They moved from Melville, SK as Jack had transferred with the CNR. Arvon completed his high school education and then in 1950 followed in his father's footsteps and hired on with the CNR as a locomotive fireman. Arvon and Mary Carpenter met in Blue River in 1953 where Mary was employed as a waitress in the "Beanery". Mary was born on the Queen Charlotte Islands but later moved to Vanderhoof with her family where she grew up and received her education. They were married in 1954. Their children David in 1956, John in 1957, Susan in 1959 (deceased), Gary in 1960 and Patricia in 1962 were all born in Jasper, AB. Arvon was a member of the Jasper Camera Club, and the Jasper Yellowhead Historical Society.

The fonds consist of a Lovat Scout cricket ball and video (1943-44), a centennial pin (1967), a V-E Day Commemoration Programme (19-), and a book collection: Elesco Locomotive Feed Water Heaters, Operation & Maintenance (1927), Gauger's Field Book, Trans Mountain Oil Pipeline, CN General Operating Instructions (1978, 1985, 1962), CN Uniform Code of Operating Rules (1951), Angler's Guide to Alberta Fishes (1966). The fonds also consist of a "N" Scale Card (19-), CNR Clearance papers (194?-1983, 1971, 1981), Receipts from Berry's Meat Market (1953) and Jasper Fuel & Cartage Co. (1958), a calender - Shovel Pass Home Hardware (1987), and a video of Jasper east to Edson before double trackes (197-). The photograph collection consists of both b&w and colour photos: Hilworth family & friends (1949-1956), the controlled burn of Morro Peak (1989),CN work crew (1951), train wrecks (1946- 1955), Jasper community teams, clubs, & events (1946- 2001), Jasper scenes & townsite (1944- 2001), and a retirement party (1959). The fonds also consist of slides of the townsite (196-), the curling team (1956), and the railroad (196-). Photograph series of various locations around Jasper National Park including: the meeting place; Edith Cavell Road Camp; the Moberly homestead; Relief Camp at Soggy Dog Lake; waste transfer station; Mile 12; west of Redpass, BC; Jasper Legion Hall; Hilworth home (100 Patricia Street). Fonds consists of four videocasettes: Sheep (2005.42.63); Medicine Lake (2005.42.64); Agressive Elk (2005.42.65); Museum and Railroad (2005.42.66).
