Biographical history
L'Association des éducateurs bilingues de l'Alberta (AEBA) was founded in 1928 under the name "L'Association des Instituteurs Bilingues de l'Alberta". After revising its constitution in 1946 its name was changed to the present AEBA. In 1958, the association was organized by regions: Cercle Lacombe at Edmonton, Cercle Langlois at Rivière de la Paix, Cercle Le Clainche at Saint-Paul, Cercle Pie XI at Bonnyville and Cercle Pie XII at Plamondon. The aims of the association were: to promote the professional development of its members as bilingual teachers; to propagate and encourage the teaching of French in Alberta; to encourage, for the welfare of the French in Alberta, talented French-Canadian students to further their university training; and to establish a link between bilingual teachers, the Association canadienne-française de l'Alberta, school boards, and parents. For many years AEBA organized French language contests and French literary contests in the provincial schools. In 1963, the Alberta Teacher's Association created a French Council, consisting of bilingual teachers, which replaced overtime the AEBA.
