Biographical history

The Athabasca Echo was first published on July 12,1928 as a local community newspaper in Athabasca, Alberta. The newspaper discontinued publication on August 12,1986. The publishers were William Conquest (1928-1942), Byron W. Bellamy (1942-1954), Evelyn Rita Rogers (1954-1978) and Robert MacGregor (1978-1986).

Scope and content

The fonds consists of materials created by the Athabasca Echo newspaper between 1949 and 1957. The fonds consists of Christmas cards, cancelled cheques, cash receipt book, tax record book,employee time sheets, and petty cash book of the Athabasca Echo. The fonds also consists of 1101 photographs created between 1952 and 1972. There is a framed pen and ink sketch of each editor.

Photographs # 3431-4756 have been digitized. 410 photographs were weeded from this collection when it was rehoused in new albums.
