Biographical history

Arthur Bell was born in Russia in 191-?. He came to Calgary as a young boy with his parents and three sisters. He completed grade 11. He began his working life as a cattle skinner for Swift Canadian, then became a cattle buyer. He married Eva Sheckter in 1945. They moved to Edmonton, where he then started a business called National Produce, which sold beef, poultry and eggs and rented frozen food lockers. Later, he bred and raced thoroughbred horses. Ultimately, he became president of Wainoco Oil Company, later bought by Husky, and was a real estate developer. Eva was born in Winnipeg, one of ten children of Mayer and Faigel Sheckter. Eva grew up in Edmonton, and was primarily employed in sales. In 1964, the Sheckter family moved to Vancouver. They had three children, Jody, Sharilyn and Brian.

The fonds consists of materials created by the Bell family of Edmonton, Alberta, and Vancouver, B.C., from 1915- 2000. The fonds consists of a family history and photos of the Bell and Sheckter families.
