Biographical history

William Henry "Billy" Williams, born in 1881, came to Medicine Hat in 1903, from Plymouth, England. He began a career in the insurance business, and then joined the Canadian Army serving overseas in World War I. He was Adjutant of Medicine Hat's 175th Regiment. After the war, he returned to Medicine Hat, and from 1922 until his retirement in 1950, served as a City Assessor and as a Probation Officer. He served also as Secretary of the local Masonic Lodge, being a member of that organization for 56 years. He was also a life member in the Royal Canadian Legion. He married Myrtle V. (nee ?), and they had a daughter Helen, and a son Alex. Billy Williams passed away on July 2, 1966. His wife Myrtle, died on May 28, 1968.

Williams (1916); Certificate of Military Instruction, issued to Lieutenant W.H. Williams, 21st Alberta Hussars (1916); Retirement Certificate from the City of Medicine Hat, issued to William Henry Williams (1950); Golden Jubilee Senior Citizens Award, issued to William Henry Williams (1955); booklet entitled "50 Years of St. Barnabas Church 1884-1934" (1934); promotional booklet entitled "Medicine Hat The City of Untold Possiblities" compiled by Medicine Hat Junior Board of Trade (1939); luncheon program for the Duke of Connaught and Strathearn held at the Palliser Hotel, Calgary (1916); Christmas card from 21st Canadian Reserve Battalion (undated); Christmas card from 21st Reserve Battalion, Alberta, signed by Alex Murison (1917); memorial card for Sergeant James B. Graham (1916); thank you letter signed by Helen Graham addressed to Capt. Williams (1917); 101 photographs of various views of Medicine Hat, portraits of men in the 175th Battalion, various military photos, and views of Medicine Hat businesses and events.
