Biographical history
William J. Botterill, 1876-1961, was born at Galt, Ontario. His family moved to western Canada in 1881, and he settled in Red Deer, N.W.T. in 1902. He entered into a farm machinery business, then established a real estate and insurance agency. He served on the Red Deer Town Council from 1904 to 1919, including a year as Mayor in 1909. He was charter president of the Rotary Club of Red Deer, and was active in several other civic organizations. In 1904 he married Nellie A. Freestead of Victoria, B.C. and they had four children, Ella (Ives), Phyllis (Jobb), Norman, and Lois. Ella Botterill, 1904-1996, attended Garbutt's Business College in Calgary. In 1928 she married R. C. "Pat" Ives, and they had two children, David and Margaret (Reinke). Ella and Pat operated a real estate and insurance business in Eckville, Alberta, Ives and Ives

The fonds consists of family photographs, memorabilia, Ella's certificates, dance cards, greeting cards, postcards, a history of Central Junior High School in Red Deer, news clippings, and prize lists for the Red Deer Exhibition and the Red Deer Horticultural Show (1972-1979)
