Biographical history

Charles Boyer was born in Selkirk, Ontario in [1880?]. After serving in the Boer War, Mr. Boyer moved to Wetaskiwin in 1905 and opened up a men's wear and dry-cleaning establishment, which he operated until 1949. Mr. Boyer was also active in the community and served as an alderman in Wetaskiwin from 1915-1916 and again from 1936-1940. Mr. Boyer was an active member of the Wetaskiwin Masonic lodge and was also a member of the Wetaskiwin Oddfellows lodge. Jennie Boyer was born Jennie B. Jones in Newport, Ontario and came to Wetaskiwin in 1908. In 1908, she married Charles Boyer. Mrs. Boyer was active in the I.O.D.E. and sang in the choirs of the Presbyterian and United Churches. The Boyers had one child, John, who died in infancy in 1912. Charles Boyer died in 1949 and Jenny Boyer died in 1969.

Custodial history

The fonds was donated by Mrs. Ted Thornton in 1993. The fonds was a part of the estate of Jenny and Charles Boyer but it is unclear how Mrs. Thornton acquired the records.

Scope and content

Fonds consists of materials created or collected by the Boyer family of Wetaskiwin, Alberta from ca. 1900-1966. Fonds consists of these series: 1. Photographs (ca.1900-1966) Consists of photographs of the Boyer family, their friends, the Wetaskiwin area, and other photographs relating to the Boyer family. 2. Cards (1904- ca.1950) Series consists of postcards, Christmas cards, and birthday cards sent to members of the Boyer family. 3. Personal (1902-1947) Consists of Charles Boyer's military discharge certificate, the Boyer's marriage certificate, and a poem narrating the Boyer's courtship. 4. Miscellaneous (1901-1964) Series consists of published materials, school yearbooks, programs for various activities, and other materials collected by the Boyers.
