Sharon Cairns was born in Edmonton, Alberta ca. 1945 to Leo Pekarsky and Minnie (Dlin) Pekarsky. She worked for many years as the director of the Alberta Jewish National Fund office in Edmonton and married musician Bobby (Robert) Cairns. Together they had two sons, Jason and Matt. Bobby Cairns was born ca. 1933 in Saskatchewan. He moved to Alberta and in 1971 became a music teacher at Grant MacEwan College in Edmonton, Alberta. He became chair of the jazz guitar program there in 1975, remaining in that position for over thirty years. Cairns worked with many musicians over the years, including Tommy Banks and Chet Baker. He released his first solo album, <em>Indelible</em> in 2005.
