History

On 1 April 1946, the unit was redesignated "The Calgary Highlanders", reverting back to a one battalion Militia unit. After the war, the Battalion had several active companies throughout Southern Alberta with locations in Banff, Vulcan, Stavely, Blackie, Okotoks, and Hanna. The company in Banff was disbanded on 31 October 1949 due to lack of interest and poor recruitment. In May of 1950, a Calgary Highlander tradition was started with the first of many Highland Balls. The outbreak of hostilities in Korea had its effect upon the reserve unit. During September 1950, several officers and senior non-commisioned officers were attached to the 1st Battalion Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry (P.P.C.L.I.) to assist in the training of new recruits for the active force.
