Biographical history

The railway (CPR) arrived in Claresholm, Alberta in 1891, and a converted box car served as the first railway station. It was replaced in 1895 by a wood frame building. When the CPR dismantled the Calgary sandstone station in 1910, half the building material was sent to Claresholm for a new station, and the other half to High River. The resulting sandstone station in Claresholm was completed in 1911, and served the community until 1965, when passenger service to the town was discontinued. The building opened as the Claresholm and District Museum in 1969.
