Biographical history
In 1892-1893 a branch of the Calgary & Edmonton Railway, a subsidiary of the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR), was built, closely following the trail between Calgary and Fort Macleod in Alberta. A railway station was built at Okotoks in 1892, and the community was renamed Dewdney. By 1897 the name of the railway station and the post office was changed back to Okotoks. In 1928 the station burned down and was replaced by a more substantial brick station. In 1971 passenger service ended and the station was closed. In 1980 the building was re-opened as the arts centre for Okotoks
