Biographical history
The Carmangay West Mutual Telephone Company was incorporated under <em>The Companies Act</em> on January 29, 1935 and served the area around Carmangay, Alberta. Specifically, it included Townships 12 and 13, Ranges 23, 24, and 25, West of the 4th Meridian (12,13-23,24,25-W4). Alberta Government Telephones (AGT) assumed provision of communication services in the area on May 20, 1974, though the Carmangay West Mutual Telephone Company was not officially dissolved by shareholders until November of that year.

Fonds consists of the business records of the Carmangay West Mutual Telephone Company and includes minutes, financial records, subscriber accounts, subscriber lists, certificate of incorporation, agreements, telephone statistics, share certificate subs, subscriber lists, line maintenance records, newspaper clippings, an auction poster, telephone publications, and maps.

Immediate source of acquisition
Mr. Eric Collier deposited these records in the Provincial Archives of Alberta in 1975. Mr. Collier was the Secretary-Treasurer of the Carmangay West Telephone Company.
Arrangement
Some records of the Carmangay West Mutual Telephone Company were mixed with the records of the East Carmangay Mutual Telephone Company. The mixed records are in file numbers 10, 23, 24, 26, 32,33, 34, 35, 36, 37, 40, 46, and 48.
