Biographical history

Carrie M. Robertson (nee Wooster) attended the Albany Hospital Training School for Nurses in Albany, New York, and graduated circa (ca.) 1909. In 1914 she married J.D. (John Donald) Robertson (1881-1933), an engineer in Alberta, and later Deputy Minister of Public Works for the Province of Alberta. Carrie M. Robertson died in 1973.

Custodial history

Mrs. E.E. Bishop, wife of Mr. E.E. Bishop, executor of the estate of his aunt Mrs. Carrie M. Robertson, deposited these records in the Provincial Archives of Alberta

Scope and content

Fonds consists of the personal records of Carrie M. Robertson and includes a scrapbook containing records that pertain to nursing, ice skating, J.D Robertson, World War I and other subjects, and contains newspaper clippings, poems, invitations, photographic and mechanically produced postcards, greeting cards, ribbons, programmes, dance cards, and a travel map of the United States and southern Canada. The scrapbook also contains photographs that depict various people, buildings, and views in the Adirondacks and Albany New York, and Alberta, including images of nurses, women, children, Mirror Lake, Lake Placid Club, Albany Hospital and Nurses Home, and Assiniboia Hall at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Alberta. The fonds also includes greeting cards, postcards, and programmes for various musical and theatrical productions, photographs depicting surveyors, bridge construction, and the hot springs at Banff, Alberta, and two engineering certificates issued to J.D. Robertson.

A number of the records in the scrapbook are crumpled and/or torn.

Arrangement

A sewing sampler book and some cookbooks have been removed from this fonds and transferred to the Human History Division of the Provincial Museum of Alberta, and some records not considered to be of permanent value have been removed from this fonds and destroyed.
