History

Stanley Newton Carscallen, 1876-1943, was born in Dresden, Ontario and came to Alberta in 1903. He settled in Red Deer where he became involved with real estate and insurance. While in Red Deer he corresponded with his fiancee, Mary Belle "Molly" Bond in Ontario. In 1904 Molly came to Red Deer and they were married. In that same year Stanley co-founded the firm Michener and Carscallen. Throughout their lives the Carscallens were involved in many community activities and in 1914 Stanley was elected mayor of Red Deer. They moved to Calgary in 1921 and 1923 he began work with Manufacturers Life. Eventually they settled permanently at Sylvan Lake where they ran a real estate and insurance business called Carscallen Agencies. They had three children, Eula (Lapp), Alan, and Beth (Fowler).
