Administrative history

The Cathedral Church of the Redeemer congregation was established in Calgary in 1883 and the church building constructed in 1884. A new church was built in 1905 and a new chapel in 1936. The pro-cathedral officially became the cathedral of the Calgary Diocese of the Anglican Church in 1949. Custodial history

Scope and content

The fonds consists of photocopies of register of baptisms, marriages and deaths (1883-1926); a lantern slide show (ca.1914) about the work of Anglican missions during the settlement of the Canadian West (ca. 1914), used to raise money in England; 75th anniversary program (1950); program regarding designation as historic site (1975); Proceedings of 51st Meeting of Synod, Diocese of Calgary; and photographs of Anglican clergy and church interiors.
The lantern slide show consists of slides and an accompanying script describing the railway, immigrants, Anglican missions, churches and clergy, settlers' homes, transportation (horses, sleighs, wagons), and activities of the Church in Western Canada (this version has been re-created by Glenbow from a photocopy of the original script and scans of the lantern slides.)
