Biografie

Charles Henry Snell was born in Torquay, England in 1880. He apprenticed as a book binder and worked in London until he came to Canada in 1905, establishing a homestead in Manitoba. He moved to Leslieville, Alberta in 1906 and to Red Deer in 1912. He managed a store for T.A. Gaetz before going into surveying as a rodman for the federal government. In 1923, he received his Alberta Land Surveyor certificate and established his own surveying business in Red Deer. He surveyed much of Central Alberta. He formed the partnership Snell and Oslund Surveys Limited in 1959 and retired in 1973. He was active in the community as a long-time member and chairman (1920-1955) of the Red Deer Public Library Board and the local branches of the Cooperative Commonwealth Federation and its successor, the New Democratic Party. He died in Red Deer in 1981
