Biographical history

Francis T.P. "Choppy" Stanier was born in England in 1908. He came to Canada in 1927 and farmed in Ontario and Saskatchewan before moving to Alberta in the mid 1930s. He worked on several ranches before working in the oil fields in Central Alberta. He returned to England in 1937 and worked as a tool pusher for the Anglo-Iranian Oil Company until 1947, when he returned to Alberta just prior to the oil boom. In 1955, he founded his own business, Kingfisher Oil Field Fishing Company Ltd. The company failed by 1971 and Choppy retired. He died in Red Deer in 1986.

Scope and content

The fonds consists of Stanier's correspondence, training manuals, and business records. Includes business records of the Kingfisher Oil Field Fishing Company, records related to his involvement in civil defense activities, family photographs, publications from various oil industry sources, and township maps.
