Biographical history

Christina Anne Bethune, 1868-1929, was born in Nairn, Scotland. In 1880 she emigrated with her family to the Falkland Islands, where she married John Thomson Macdonald Ritchie. They had three children who survived infancy: Jennie (Mrs. S.M. Patterson), John "Jack", and Dora Curtiss (Mrs. Robert C. Sparks). The family moved to Canada in 1898, settling in Calgary. In 1904, Christina, widowed, filed for a homestead near Frank Lake, just west of Blackie, Alberta, and in 1905 she moved onto it with her children. She died in High River. Record No. 007-028 The fonds consists of a receipt for undertaking services for burial of a child (1900), homestead receipts (1904), and local improvement tax receipts (1905, 1906). Ritchie, Christina Anne Ritchie, Christina Anne Land, settlement and immigration Women Donated by Robert E. Sparks, 2007. The fonds was in the custody of Mrs. Ritchie's daughter, Dora Sparks, and her grandson, Robert E. Sparks. There are no restrictions on access.
