Biographical history

The CKUA Radio Network, Canada's first educational and public broadcaster, formed in 1927 on the University of Alberta campus in Edmonton, Alberta. While the station began as a low wattage station with a staff of amateur radio enthusiasts, the station grew to become a radio and internet broadcast network. Initially, the Government of Alberta funded the station, but CKUA became a private broadcasting station in 1994. A foundation comprised of foundation members now governs the station. Corporate sponsors, foundation memberships, and listener donations financially support the station. Over 160,000 weekly listeners tune into CKUA.

Custodial history

In 1967, the Provincial Archives of Alberta purchased material comprising PR1967.0086 from the Queen's Printer. In 1995, Catherine Garvey donated material comprising PR1996.0007 to the Provincial Archives of Alberta.
