History
Jean Claustre was born in France in 1848. He came to Canada and shortly thereafter joined the NWMP. in 1873. He came to Fort Walsh in 1875. A short time later, he opened a store in the area which is where he met his wife, Aroselia, (nee Tate). When the Fort closed in 1883, they moved to Maple Creek where Jean opened the first store in town. They had 10 children: Mary, Catherine, MaryJane, Josephine, Rose, Jennie, Madeline, Peter, John and Josie. Aroselia Claustre passed away in 1911; Jean died in 1914. Mary (Victoria) Claustre, eldest daughter of Jean and Aroselia, married Ivie Templeton Wilson. They had 2 children: Mary (married Mr. Casat) and Robert (died in infancy). Mrs. Mary Victoria Wilson passed away at an early age and Ivie remarried Isabella Cockrane. This union produced 5 children: Jean, Bella, Ivy, Bessie and Robert. Robert later married and had a son, Robert Jr..
