Fonds uofc-1231 - Co-operative Education and Internship Program fonds

The Faculties of Communication and Culture, Engineering, Haskayne School of Business, Humanities, Science, and Social Sciences all take part in the program. Co-operative Education and Internship (formerly Co-operative Education) has grown from 6 programs in 1989 to over 20 programs in 2004. Co-operative Education began in 1988 with Mr. Bill Holbrow as director (serving from 1988-1997). He reported to the Associate Vice-President (Student Affairs) in the Vice-President (Academic) area of responsibility. In 1996, the name changed to the Co-operative Education and Internship Program, and the position of director appears to have been discontinued. In 1998, the program was taken over by Career Services and in 2000, Janice Attersley became the new director. By 2002, the position of director again appears to have been discontinued. Craig Fortner became the director of Career Services in 2001. There are directors of Co-operative Education in each of the faculties where the program is offered. The Co-operative Education Advisory Council (CEAC) was formed in November of 1989 to establish an official link, at the executive level, between various sectors of the economy and those faculties at the university offering Co-operative Education. The mandate of the Council is to advise, recommend and take action on matters which are referred to it through the members, with a view to the continuing improvement and growth of Co-operative Education. The Council's first Chair was Mr. Kevin Peterson of the Calgary Herald.
