Administrative history

Dates of Founding and/or Dissolution:;The Communal Property Control Board was established in 1960. The Board was dissolved in 1972. Functional Responsibility:;The Communal Property Control Board was created in an amendment to The Communal Property Act (S.A. Chapter 16, 1960) to administer the statute. The purpose of the Act was to control the acquisition and disposal of land held by Hutterite and Doukhobor colonies in Alberta. The original statute, The Communal Property Act (S.A. Chapter 16, 1947) provided that all lands held as of March 1944 would be registered with the Department of Municipal Affairs. In 1951, an amendment to the legislation provided a means that land taxes would be remitted on these properties. The same amendment limited the size of communal farms in the province. Predecessor and Successor Bodies:;The Communal Property Control Board took over the functions performed by the Director of Assessment as define in the original statue. Administrative Relationships:;The Minister of Municipal Affairs was charged with the administration of the Act. The Lieutenant Governor in Council established the Board and appointed the members. The Lieutenant Governor in Council also designated the Chairman of the Board. Administrative Structure:;The maximum number of member on the Communal Property Control Board was three. The Chairman of the Board called the meeting and presided over them.
