Myrtle Cook (Jeck) was born in 1927 in McBride, BC; her parents were Adolph Jeck and Maria Jeck (nee Henkelman). They came from Volhanyia, Russia with their families when they were very small children. They lived for many years around the Edmonton area. They were married February 1, 1912 and moved to McBride B.C. in the 1920s. Myrtle first came to Jasper in 1945 or 1946, to cook for the summer at the Black Cat Ranch for her brother, Leonard, who managed the ranch for Fred Brewster. Myrtle also cooked on the trail in the fall for her brother Leonard and Jack Hargreaves, guide and outfitter. Myrtle also worked for Curt and Mary Kiefer at Alpine Village for four summer seasons. In 1955 Myrtle Jeck and Ken Cook were married. Ken was a locomotive engineer for the Canadian National Railway (CNR). He also helped to develop Whistlers Ski Hill, Jasper (AB) and build the Pomo Tow and rope tow. He also built the house at 805 Geikie Street which was the cook family home. The Cooks had three children, all of which were born in the old Seton Hospital and all three graduated from Jasper Junior-Senior High School, then went their various ways to continue their education. Reg graduated from NAIT in 1976 with a degree in Electronics Engineering Technology and has worked overseas most of the time since then. Frances graduated from U.B.C. in 1983 with a Bachelor of Physical Education. She travelled extensively abroad and learned to speak German fluently. She then got a French certificate from the University of Quebec in Chicoutimi and then went on to Concordia University in Montreal where she obtained a Bachelor of Education degree in T.E.S.L.(teaching English as a second language). At this time she is teaching in French at Lacombe, AB. Donna went to Red Deer College and University of Alberta where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Recreation Administration. She worked in Edmonton and that area for quite a few years and is now married to Dan Hinckey and living in Yellowknife, N.W.T.
