Biographical history
In 1917, Alvin Lee and Albert Lee built a community hall on N.E. 2-47-23. This hall, known in the region as the "Old Swanson Place," was built near a lake and mosquito problems caused the hall to be moved in 1919 to N.W. 21-47-23 W4. In 1927 the United Farmers Association began to organize to build a new hall. A board of directors was elected and shares were sold. These shares, combined with a loan from the Millet Bank, allowed for the purchase of N.W. 20-47-23 W4 from Thorval Kvello. Three men were hired as carpenters and by November 1927 the hall was completed. In 1942, the shares were dissolved and it become a community hall to avoid paying amusement taxes. Initially there were dances every two weeks but as time went on the use of the hall fell off. The Crooked Lake Women's Institute held an annual tea and paid the power bills but eventually the hall was sold and moved to the nearby Kjos farm to be used as a machine shed.
Custodial history
Donated by Mrs. Lorna Kjos, 1986. It is believed that the records were held by the Kjos family from 1929 until their donation to the City of Wetaskiwin Archives in 1986. Mrs. Kjos's husband William was related to Oscar Kjos who served on the board of directors of the Crooked Lake Community Hall Limited during the construction of the new community hall in 1927-1929.
