Biographical history
Earl Danard created and operated Danard Great Northwest Pioneer Village in Alberta. The village included the homes of early Alberta pioneers such as Peter Erasmus and John Skinner; buildings such as the Excelsior Methodist Church and the Bellrose Catholic Public School; a granary; a log house; a building from the Northwest Trading Co. a Greek Orthodox Chapel as well as numerous artifacts including a tractor, clothing, furniture, dishes, radios, and telephones. In 1966, Earl Danard sold the Pioneer Village to the City of Edmonton for $70,000. The City of Edmonton then transported the buildings and artifacts comprising the village to the site of Fort Edmonton Park. The buildings and the artifacts now form "1885 Street" in Fort Edmonton Park.
Custodial history
In 1966, Karl Kaesekamp donated the material to the Provincial Archives of Alberta.
Scope and content
The collection consists of images documenting Danard Great Northwest Pioneer Village in 1966. The collection includes views of Ukrainian dwellings, a Greek Orthodox Chapel, Peter Erasmus' house, Earl Danard, furniture, horse drawn cutters and buggies, farm equipment, fire fighting equipment, a sod house, the Kreye House, the Excelsior Methodist Church, a building of the Northwest Trading Co., one of the first post offices in Namao, a blacksmith shop, and the Bellrose Catholic Public School.
