Daniel Webster Trotter, 1860-1941, was born in Missouri, USA and educated in Kansas City and New York. He obtained an actuarial degree from Columbia University, and worked as a secretary for John D. Rockefeller. He came to Alberta in 1905 and purchased a 1600 acres farm near Shepard, which became noted as the Bullhurst Seed Farms. He specialized in seed oats and the breeding of Yorkshire pigs.
